Studying at Lorestan University
This higher education center began its academic activities in 1977 as the northern branch of Jundi-Shapur University of Ahvaz (now Shahid Chamran University). In 1979, the Lorestan branch separated from Shahid Chamran University and continued operating under the name Lorestan Higher Education Complex, with four academic departments: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. In 1993, it was officially upgraded from a complex to a university. Today, Lorestan University comprises six faculties: Basic Sciences, Engineering, Literature and Humanities, Economics and Administrative Sciences, Agriculture and Natural Resources, and Veterinary Medicine. It also oversees four affiliated higher education centers located in the counties of Noorabad, Alishtar, Kuhdasht, and Poldokhtar. The university currently has 342 faculty members, including 34 full professors, 94 associate professors, 199 assistant professors, and 15 instructors. It offers 197 academic programs across undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels, including 49 doctoral programs, 81 master’s programs, 66 bachelor’s programs, and one professional doctoral program. At present, 8,998 students are enrolled at various levels of study at the university.
Ranking
Lorestan University is one of the country’s public universities with a moderate academic standing. It has been in existence for over 40 years. To date, the university has published 7,357 domestic articles and 2,760 international articles. In 2021, Lorestan University ranked 26th among public universities and 35th among all universities in the country.
Additionally, in the 2022 Times Higher Education ranking, the university placed within the 301–350 bracket among world universities. According to the 2025 Times Higher Education World University Rankings (https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/lorestan-university), Lorestan University achieved a global ranking in the 601–800 range for Engineering Sciences.

Lorestan University Library:
The university’s library houses a collection of 63,000 volumes and has been operating since 1977. It holds rich resources in the main fields of humanities, basic sciences, agriculture, and engineering, including top Latin and Persian books. The library contains over 49,000 printed books in Arabic and Persian, and more than 14,000 volumes in Latin languages.
Dormitories:
Lorestan University has separate dormitory complexes for male and female students on campus, along with several self-managed dormitories located around the city of Khorramabad.
