Introduction

Shiraz University is one of the oldest universities in Iran. It was founded in 1946 (1325 in the Iranian calendar) with the establishment of a medical training school. In 1949 (1328), this school became the Faculty of Medicine. Following that, other faculties and academic programs were added.

With more than 70 years of history, Shiraz University is considered one of the largest and most comprehensive universities in Iran. It is located in Shiraz, a city known as the land of poetry, wisdom, and knowledge.

Currently, Shiraz University has around 17,000 students and nearly 700 faculty members. Each year, about 4,000 students choose to study here in 604 academic programs across various degrees, including Associate, Bachelor’s, Master’s, Professional Doctorate, and Ph.D.

Shiraz University Libraries

The Central Library and Documentation Center of Shiraz University was established in the academic year 1985–1986. The current library building has three floors and covers an area of approximately 11,000 square meters.

• The first floor is dedicated to the study hall.
• The second floor includes the reference section, Persian, Arabic, and Latin book collections, the demography collection, the education sciences section, the book deposit desk, and the check-in desk.
• The third floor contains periodicals, theses and dissertations, electronic databases, the article request section, and the Professor Pope’s Iranology collection, among other resources.

Recreational and Tourism Facilities

In addition to its extensive educational and research resources, Shiraz University offers a variety of recreational and tourism facilities. These include:
