Sahand University of Technology
Sahand University of Technology was established in 1989 as the first industrial university founded after the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Its mission was to bridge the gap between academia and industry and to train skilled and proficient engineers.
Introduction
Sahand University of Technology began its academic activities in 1990 by admitting 48 students in the field of Materials Engineering, with a focus on Casting. With a strong emphasis on graduate studies, the university has created an ideal environment for researchers and students interested in research and development. Home to the Scientific Pole for Styrenic Polymers—the most active polymer engineering research center in the northwest of Iran—Sahand University plays a leading role in advancing the region’s industrial development. The university also prioritizes international academic collaboration, offering opportunities for international students and signing joint agreements with reputable universities in the Netherlands, Spain, China, and Turkey.

According to the latest Times Higher Education ranking for 2025, Sahand University of Technology is ranked in the 1001–1200 range globally. Additionally, based on the Shanghai Global Ranking by Subject, the university is ranked among the top 150–200 universities in Metallurgical Engineering, among the top 400 in Chemical Engineering, and among the top 500 in Energy Science and Engineering worldwide.

Welfare Facilities
Sahand University of Technology offers a wide range of welfare services to create a dynamic and supportive environment for students’ academic and personal lives. One of the most important facilities is the student dormitories. The university provides separate housing for male and female students, making accommodation available for non-local students. Another key asset of the university is its Central Library, established alongside the founding of the university. As the heart of academic and research activities, the library is designed to support the educational, research, and cultural needs of students, faculty, and staff. With over 1,600 active members, it offers a rich collection of print and electronic resources and provides a suitable space for study and research.
