Studying at Shahed University
Introduction
Shahed University is a public university under the supervision of the Ministry of Science and the Ministry of Health. Following the historic decree issued by Ayatollah Khomeini on March 26, 1986, which emphasized the importance of attending to the cultural and educational needs of the children of martyrs, freed prisoners, missing persons, and war veterans of the Islamic Revolution and the imposed war, Shahed University was established to provide the necessary higher education and research environment. It officially began its activities in October 1990 by admitting 165 students across seven fields of study: Nursing, Midwifery, Educational Sciences, Social Sciences, Psychology, Mathematics, and Painting.
Today, Shahed University is a public institution with a capacity to admit over 11,000 students in 128 academic programs. Currently, more than 6,000 students are enrolled in 102 disciplines, including 13 PhD programs, 2 professional doctorate programs, 61 master’s programs, and 26 bachelor’s programs across 9 faculties.
Ranking
The global ranking of universities and higher education institutions, published annually by reputable organizations such as the SCImago Ranking Institute (SRI), affiliated with Elsevier’s Scientific Document Center, serves as a valuable indicator for assessing the status of universities and research institutions in the country and tracking their progress in science and technology.
According to the 2010 ranking data, 36 academic and research centers from the country were listed among the top 2,800 universities worldwide. Although this is still far behind leading countries such as China, the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Japan, Shahed University was ranked 36th nationally and 2,793rd globally.

Laboratories
Among the educational and research facilities at Shahed University are several laboratories, including the Central Laboratory and the Animal Studies Laboratory.
- Central Laboratory:
The Central Laboratory is equipped with a range of advanced instruments for qualitative and quantitative analysis of materials and laboratory samples. It was established to provide research services to students, faculty members of Shahed University, as well as other academic, research, and industrial centers across the country. - Animal Studies Laboratory:
This laboratory was established to conduct research in basic and medical sciences. It focuses on guiding and executing applied and fundamental research projects and developing experimental animal models. Various strains of mice (Rat, Syrian, C57, BALB/c) are used in research here. The laboratory is divided into three separate sections for neurological brain studies, behavioral studies, and sports science. Services such as blood sampling (from eye, ear, cheek, tail, and heart), injections (intraperitoneal, tail, subcutaneous), gavage, surgery, and the isolation of different animal organs are carried out by a skilled and experienced team.
