Studying at Iran University of Science and Technology
The core of this university was founded in 1308 with the goal of providing advanced engineering education in the country. It was originally called the “State Industrial School” and had both German and Iranian professors. Today, the university has 416 faculty members and 5,548 students.
Ranking:
According to the latest national university ranking by the Islamic World Science Citation Center (ISC), Iran University of Science and Technology is ranked third among industrial universities in the country.
Also, based on the most recent global ranking in 2025 by the Times Higher Education (THE) system, the university has significantly improved its position, placing between 351 and 400 in the world. It ranks second in Iran among all universities under the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology and the Ministry of Health.

Key Scientific Achievements and Honors of the University
- Ranked first among universities in the country and placed among the top 800 universities worldwide according to the prestigious Times international ranking system in 2015 and 2016.
- Achieved third place nationally in the ranking of technical and engineering universities in the country.
- Achieved fourth place nationally in the 2010 ranking of universities in the Islamic world.
- Designed and built two national satellites, Navid and Zafar, in 2009 and 2010.
- Designed and built a neural motor prosthesis device to help people with spinal cord injuries stand and walk.
- Won first place in applied research at the 10th Khwarizmi Young Festival in 2008 for a project called c-Sharifi, which achieved full technical knowledge.
- Produced glass fibers for the first time in the country in 2010.
- Designed and built the first ground station for satellite remote sensing in 2011.
- Three students from the university were selected as national exemplary students by the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology in 2010.
- Built the first folded composite mega-structure by the Iranian Composite Institute in 2009.
- Won 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places in the 14th national student Olympiad in 2009.
- The project of designing, building, and optimizing a three-purpose wind tunnel and its measurement systems was selected as the top national project at the National Innovation and Prosperity Festival in 2009.
- Achieved three first places and one second place in robotics competitions at the 11th and 12th Khwarizmi Young Festival in 2009 and 2010.
- Won third place in the 2011 Iran Open Robocup competition.
