Studying at the University of Guilan

Studying at the University of Guilan

Introduction
Gilan University was established in 1974 following approval by the Higher Education Development Council, as part of an agreement between the governments of Iran and the former West Germany. Since the Rasht Higher School of Commerce and the Lahijan Higher School of Management had been active in Gilan Province since 1967, all their activities were transferred to Gilan University in 1976. The university officially began admitting students in 1977. After the Islamic Revolution, Gilan University resumed its educational activities independently, without reliance on Germany, offering programs in eight academic fields and enrolling about 500 students. Over time, as higher education expanded throughout the country, several faculties were established, including Basic Sciences, Engineering, Agricultural Sciences, Humanities, and Medicine. Later, additional faculties were founded such as Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Natural Resources, Architecture and Art, University Campus, East Gilan Faculty of Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Management and Economics, and Chemistry. Today, the university hosts more than 230 international students from 10 countries and is a member of the Union of State Universities of the Caspian Sea countries. It maintains academic collaborations with state universities such as Lomonosov Moscow State University, Tatishchev Astrakhan State University, University of Szeged in Hungary, Tomar Polytechnic in Portugal, Osaka City University in Japan, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Esenov Kazakh University, the Xinjiang Institute of Geography and Ecology affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Southern Federal University of Russia, and the University of Belgrade in Serbia. Moreover, Gilan University is in the process of signing cooperation agreements with eight other universities in countries including Italy, Poland, Hungary, Russia, and more.
