Kharazmi University
Kharazmi University is one of Iran’s prestigious and oldest universities. It is named after Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi, a famous Persian mathematician and scholar. The university began its activities in 1919 (1298 in the Iranian calendar) and is recognized as one of the ancient universities in Iran.
Introduction
In the past, this university was known by different names, including “Tehran Teacher Training College” and “Higher Teacher Training Institute.” Today, Kharazmi University admits students in various fields such as basic sciences, humanities, education, and engineering at different levels from bachelor’s to doctoral degrees. It is considered one of the top universities in Iran and is classified as a Group “A” institution by the Ministry of Science. Kharazmi University is the only university in Iran that offers doctoral programs and training in Mathematics. The university has two campuses in Tehran and Karaj, along with two self-funded campuses—one in Karaj and one in Tehran. The self-funded campus in Karaj has been under construction since 1392 and is not yet completed. The Tehran self-funded campus is located in the former building of the Dr. Mosahab Institute for Mathematical Research. However, it’s important to note that these two self-funded campuses do not admit undergraduate (bachelor’s) students.

Welfare and Student Services
Kharazmi University Tehran offers good facilities to support the welfare of students and faculty members. Some of these include:
- Multi-purpose Sports Hall:
This facility has a floor area of about 8,000 square meters and is designed according to international standards. It can accommodate 3,000 spectators and supports sports like handball, volleyball, basketball, and indoor football. - Indoor Swimming Pool:
Covering approximately 4,000 square meters, this pool is designed to hold 300 spectators. It is built to international standards and includes facilities for both training and recreational use. - Dormitory Facilities:
Two dormitory blocks, each about 4,000 square meters and housing up to 300 students, were constructed with bank funding and provide suitable living conditions for students. The university’s dormitories in the Karaj campus include 23 blocks. In Tehran, dormitories named Shahid Keshvari and Lalehzar are designated for male students, while female students reside in Shahid Hosseini and Somayeh dormitories. - Library, Information Center, and Archives:
The university has two central libraries and archive centers located at the main Tehran campus and the Karaj campus. Additionally, each faculty has its own specialized library. The central library building in Tehran is considered a national heritage site and one of the oldest higher education buildings in Iran. The new library building in Karaj has six floors. Altogether, the university libraries hold approximately 21,080 printed books in Persian, Latin, and Arabic, as well as 113 manuscript copies.
