Studying at Shahrood University of Technology
Shahrood University of Technology is one of Iran’s most prestigious public universities, located in the city of Shahrood in Semnan Province. Much like Amirkabir University of Technology, it is recognized as one of the country’s top technical institutions. With outstanding educational and research facilities, experienced faculty, and a vibrant academic environment, the university offers an exceptional opportunity for students to thrive and grow in their academic and professional pursuits.
Introduction
Shahrood University of Technology was originally established in 1973 under the name Shahrood College of Mining, offering an associate degree in coal mining. Initially funded and managed by the private sector, the college came under the supervision of the Ministry of Industries and Mines in 1975. In 1982, its management was transferred to the Ministry of Culture and Higher Education. In 1987, with the introduction of mining engineering programs and the addition of associate degrees in civil and electrical engineering, it was upgraded to Shahrood Higher Education Complex. Later, in 1993, with the approval of the Council for the Expansion of Higher Education, the complex was promoted to Shahrood University. As academic programs and postgraduate studies expanded, the institution was officially renamed Shahrood University of Technology in 2002. In October 2011, the university launched a new campus called the Engineering and Emerging Technologies Campus, which included four faculties and two student dormitories. However, in 2010, the university’s name was temporarily changed to Shahrood University without the approval of the University Council or Board of Trustees, aiming to support the launch of humanities programs. This change was reversed in December 2015 when the Council for the Expansion of Higher Education officially reinstated the name Shahrood University of Technology, restoring its position among Iran’s top technical universities.
