Studying at Urmia University of Medical Sciences :
Urmia University of Medical Sciences is the oldest modern medical university in Iran. It was founded in 1949 under the name “Higher School of Health Services”, with the initial goal of training nurses and healthcare staff. In 1965, the school was upgraded to the “Faculty of Medicine”, officially beginning its academic activities in medical education. After the Islamic Revolution, the faculty expanded and, in 1986, became an independent institution under the name “Urmia University of Medical Sciences and Health Services.” Today, the university holds the publication rights for four specialized scientific journals, has organized three academic conferences, and has published approximately 989 papers in national journals and conferences. On the international level, the university is proud to have 3,789 indexed articles (ISI) in its scientific record.

According to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025, Urmia University of Medical Sciences is ranked 601–800 globally.

Student Welfare and Facilities
In addition to its academic and research centers, Urmia University of Medical Sciences provides a wide range of welfare facilities with good living standards. The university offers three dormitories for female students and two for male students. One of these dormitories is located on campus, while the others are in downtown Urmia, about 10–15 minutes away from the university.
Some dormitories are newly built, while others are older but still well-maintained and comfortable. The university dining services offer meals of moderate to good quality, and weekly recreational trips are organized for students.
The university also features a well-equipped library with access to reliable scientific resources in both print and digital formats. In addition, students can benefit from advanced laboratories, sports clubs, and a swimming pool located near the dormitory area.
