Introduction
Ilam University initially began as the Ilam Animal Husbandry College and, from 1976, operated as the only independent animal husbandry faculty affiliated with Razi University in Kermanshah. After the Cultural Revolution, this college was renamed the Faculty of Agriculture. In 1992, following the Islamic Revolution’s goals of cultural, social, and economic development in underprivileged regions, and thanks to the Supreme Leader’s visit to Ilam Province, the faculty separated from Razi University and was promoted to Ilam University. Currently, Ilam University offers 120 academic programs across associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. More than 7,500 students are enrolled in these programs. The university’s academic staff numbers 221, including 13 instructors, 116 assistant professors, 80 associate professors, and 12 full professors.

The latest global university ranking was published by the Webometrics platform, where Ilam University was ranked 3,080th in the world. This platform evaluates over 10,000 academic and research websites twice a year on a global scale. Each university’s website, including its content and links to other websites, plays a significant role in assessing the university’s international standing. Additionally, according to the most recent Times Higher Education World University Rankings in 2025, Ilam University achieved a ranking between 601-800 in Physical Sciences.

Ilam University Facilities

• Dormitories:
  The university has well-equipped and separate dormitories for male and female students, as well as separate dormitories for married student couples.
• Library:
  Ilam University’s library covers an area of 600 square meters and holds approximately 7,000 volumes.
• Laboratories:
  The university is equipped with laboratories for biochemistry, parasitology, microbiology, preparation of microscopic slides, and research labs.

Office of Scientific and International Cooperation at Ilam University

Another center at Ilam University is the Persian Language Teaching Center for Non-Persian Speakers, which began its activities in 2016 (1395 in the Iranian calendar). It operates under the Office of Scientific and International Cooperation. The university’s foreign students are primarily from Iraq, and this center provides Persian language instruction specifically for these students.
